Complex Illness

When symptoms affect multiple systems

Post-viral illness, Lyme-related concerns, and multi-system symptoms can be difficult to navigate — especially when tests return normal and specialists each address one piece of the puzzle.

We take a whole-person view of immune activation, autonomic dysfunction, inflammation, mitochondrial stress, hormones, and gut health to identify patterns and prioritize next steps.

Post-exertional

Crash after activity.

Autonomic

Heart rate and blood pressure shifts.

Pain & inflammation

Widespread or migrating pain.

Cognitive & sensory

Brain fog and sensory sensitivity.

How It Connects

Systems we evaluate in complex illness care

01

Post-viral persistence

Ongoing fatigue, brain fog, dysautonomia, and post-exertional worsening after a viral illness.

02

Immune & inflammatory load

Chronic immune activation that may drive pain, palpitations, temperature instability, and poor recovery.

03

Neurological symptoms

Head pressure, sensory changes, dizziness, and cognitive symptoms that fluctuate day to day.

04

Connected systems

Gut symptoms, hormone shifts, and sleep disruption often accompany complex illness — and inform the plan.

Common Concerns

Symptoms we explore in complex illness care

You do not need a formal diagnosis before scheduling. These are common patterns patients describe when complex or post-viral illness may be part of the picture.

Post-exertional

Crash after activity.

A disproportionate worsening of symptoms after physical or cognitive exertion — sometimes delayed by hours or days.

Autonomic

Heart rate and blood pressure shifts.

Palpitations, dizziness on standing, temperature dysregulation, or feeling unable to tolerate heat or exercise.

Pain & inflammation

Widespread or migrating pain.

Joint pain, nerve-type sensations, headaches, or inflammatory flares without a clear structural explanation.

Cognitive & sensory

Brain fog and sensory sensitivity.

Difficulty concentrating, light or sound sensitivity, and feeling mentally overwhelmed by ordinary tasks.

Our Approach

How we address complex illness

Care is individualized. Testing, nutrition, lifestyle, and treatment recommendations depend on your history, goals, and what the evidence supports.

01

Timeline reconstruction

We map illness onset, triggers, prior infections, treatments tried, and symptom clusters across systems.

02

Evidence-informed testing

Labs and specialty evaluation are selected based on your presentation — not a one-size-fits-all complex illness panel.

03

Paced recovery planning

Protocols respect energy limits, prioritize stability, and adjust as symptoms improve or shift.

The Difference

Fragmented referrals vs. connected care

Complex patients often collect specialists without a unifying plan. We help connect the dots across your symptoms.

Our Philosophy

Complex illness is real — even when standard testing does not explain every symptom.

Our role is to listen, investigate thoughtfully, and help you move forward with a clear plan.

Common Questions

Questions patients often ask

Do you replace my primary care physician?

No. Continue routine preventive, screening and acute care with your existing team. This care complements it.

Are supplements or testing required?

No. Recommendations are individualized, and testing is suggested only when clinically appropriate, with purpose and cost discussed first.

Where is telehealth available?

Care is provided by secure telehealth where Dr. Schwartz holds an active license, currently Florida. You must be physically located in Florida at the time of your appointment. Additional states may be added.

Do you treat Lyme disease?

We evaluate Lyme-related and post-treatment symptoms in context with your full history. Care complements infectious disease management when acute treatment is needed.
